Kulturhavn Festival - what is it?

Kulturhavn is Denmark’s largest cultural harbour festival. The festival is free and open to all. As a festival guest you enjoy the opportunity to participate in 300 different cultural experiences that include dance, music, activities for children, water sports, theatre and guided sailing trips in the harbour. The activities are hosted by more than 150 associations, clubs and non profit organisations and are facilitated by 1500 volunteers, who are ready to give you an unforgettable weekend in exceptional surroundings.

Kulturhavn also offers the opportunity to experience new sides of Copenhagen’s amazing and very diverse dockland neighbourhoods. We have therefore made it easy to get around the harbour during the festival on board special festival shuttle boats and Movia waterbuses – free of charge!

Kulturhavn is organised by the City of Copenhagen in partnership with the harbour development company By & Havn and with support from a number of sponsors and foundations.

When is the next edition of Kulturhavn Festival?

24-26 August 2018.

Festival areas

In 2018 the festival will take place on 5 different festival areas:

  • Nordhavn
  • Refshaleøen
  • Arsenaløen
  • Islands Brygge
  • Sydhavnen

With 300 free cultural experiences on the program, spread out across the harbour, there is much to see and do.

The full program is featured here our website and in our app, which is available for both iOS and Android.

All activities during the Kulturhavn Festival are free of charge.

Participation in activities

You can actively participate in most of the 300 activities in the Kulturhavn program. You do not need to register in advance; you simply show up and take part in as many activities as you like. A few individual activities, however, only allow a limited number of people to participate. In these cases, access will be granted on a first come, first served basis.

Please note that all participation is at your own risk. Please always follow guidelines and recommendations from the responsible organisers / associations.

Children should be under parental supervision when participating in activities. Some activities require a minimum age and height for participation. To participate in water activities you must also be over 12 years of age and be able to swim 200 metres.

Kulturhavn is a diverse festival with activities for festivalgoers of all ages. Specifically, we have many activities aimed at children aged 3-14 years.

Please note that participation in all festival activities is at your own risk.

Food and drinks

Food and drinks are available for purchase on all Kulturhavn Festival areas.

Free boat transportation

All through the festival weekend the areas will be interconnected by shuttle boats where you can hop on and hop off at ease and travel free of charge. Additionally, you can also travel free of charge with Movia waterbuses during festival opening hours. Read more about free boat transport in the harbour here.

Travelling between the 10 festival areas in the harbour by bicycle is easy thanks to Copenhagen’s many bicycle bridges and the newly opened 13km Harbour Circle cycling and walking route. Here you find a map of the Harbour Circle.

Public transport

All festival areas are reachable by public transport, either bus, train or metro. For timetables and more information visit REJSEPLANEN.

We recommend that you do not arrive by car to the festival. There are plenty of good options to help you travel between the festival areas by shuttle boat, bicycle and public transport. Please note that additional parking space will be offered during the festival and that specific parking regulations apply to each of these areas.

You can get free water at HOFOR water bar on Islands Brygge.
